All Hands Garden group visits Kings Cross Gardens

All Hands Garden group visits Kings Cross Gardens

Eighteen of the group met up at Kings Cross for a guided tour of the gardens there. Our guide was Des, the head gardener who had worked on the gardens for nearly 14 years and was clearly passionate about them. As a bonus, we also had Linda from the Visitor Centre who could fill in with information about the architecture and design of the buildings. We started at the Visitor centre where a scale model of the entire development was a useful way to gauge the scale of the 67-acre site. See photos.

Dan Pearson, the famous garden designer, was involved in several of the garden designs including Handyside Gardens, a public park. It is a strip of land wedged between a modern building and the old train sheds. The site couldn't be more urban: underneath it run the tube lines of the London underground so there was no deep digging allowed!

We were focussed on the gardens of course but given the size of the entire development we could well be going back.
