Theatre group trip to see Infamous at Bromley Little Theatre
26th September 2025

Infamous was a brilliant, very intimate production performed "In the Bar". It is a modern play by April De Angelis about the life and times of Lady Emma Hamilton, original West End cast members were Caroline Quentin and her daughter Rose.
The story of Emma Hamilton is a complex one. Born to a northern working class family, she travelled to London aged 12 to work in service, she later became an actress, model and prostitute before marrying Sir William Hamilton.
In Act 1 we see Emma living the grand life in Naples, excitingly discussing the imminent arrival of Lord Nelson. We later find that she is pregnant with his child. In the second act we have jumped 17 years, Lord Nelson has been dead some years and Emma is destitute in Calais with her daughter Horatia.
Infamous gives a history lesson that is as entertaining as it is enlightening. It is both witty and heart breaking.
The play was of the usual BLT high standard and perfect for the very small stage area. I had great admiration for the cast members, who had nowhere to hide with the audience so close!
