Theatre Group trip to see Moulin Rouge

A party of 28 intrepid U3A theatre group members battled the rain and Christmas crowds to visit the Piccadilly Theatre to see the musical Moulin Rouge. We were rewarded with a treat. Moulin Rouge is a love story, based on the Baz Luhrmann's 2001 film, which is inspired by the opera La Traviata. The stage production managed to have all the glitz and glamour of the film. The cabaret scenes are amazing having a wild vibrant energy that draws you in. The set design and costumes were spectacular and the cast superb. We were a little disappointed that a lot of the original musical numbers had been updated to 21st century songs, but overall it was a very enjoyable afternoon.
