The Unfriend at Bromley Little Theatre

7th June 2026

The Unfriend at Bromley Little Theatre

First of all I want to make a general comment about the productions at BLT. However good the actors might be it must make it easier for them that the set designs, lighting, sound, special effects etc., etc., are always so good. For instance, in this production there is a scene at the beginning on deck of a cruise ship. This can only last 5 or 10 minutes, for only 9 performances, but nevertheless the set is immaculate.

To me The Unfriend is reminiscent of the Whitehall farces of the 1950s and 1960s. An English couple befriend an America woman on a cruise, are manipulated into giving her their email address and when they are back home inundated with correspondence and eventually agree to her coming to stay with them. They are also having to deal with an annoying neighbour and two teenage children, an uncommunicative son who spends most of his time in his room and daughter who thinks everyone but herself is selfish and the whole world is against her. Just as the visitor is about to arrive they discover her father, a couple of husbands and others, have died under mysterious circumstances and she is suspected of their murder. Chaos ensues, plus lots of laughs along the way.

Whether it be emotionally draining drama as in a recent production, The Son, or hilarious comedy like The Unfriend, BLT accept the challenge and present us with an excellent performance.

38 theatre group members attended the matinee and are enjoying the refurbishments at the theatre with the new lift and stairs.
